A high capacity self-contained fertiliser applicator that will enable growers to integrate precision granular fertiliser placement without any delays in planting has been introduced by Techneat Engineering for the coming season. The 1.2 tonne capacity front-mounted Placement Pro enables bulk or big-bag filling, with up to two hectares per fill.
Tom Neat reports best results with phosphate and initial nitrogen applications are achieved by placing a band of fertiliser 50mm below and 75mm to the side of the mother tuber. “Feeding fertiliser from a precision metering unit direct to the distribution heads ensures accurate placement in a controlled band exactly where required. Large diameter land wheels hold the unit stable and at the pre-determined height.” The rear-mounted planter places the seed tuber above the fertiliser band.
The Techneat Placement Pro has been completely automated to simplify the operation and allow tractor drivers to concentrate on seed planting. Automatic cut-off when lifting the unit out of work ensures there’s no waste or environmental loss on headlands. The metering mechanism is adjustable from 200kg to over 750kg/ha, enabling the use of a wider range of fertiliser blends.
“The front-mounted unit avoids the stress and strain of carrying additional weight on the planter. It also means the fertiliser can be replenished whilst the seed hopper is being refilled, saving on downtime in the field,” adds Mr Neat.
