Tuber bruising costs UK potato growers an estimated £26m a year – an average of £200 a hectare, according to the BPC National bruising survey. Further losses to packers and processors could bring the total bill to nearer £100m. Whilst many factors can contribute to bruising, including tuber dry matter and soil conditions, most initial physical damage is incurred during harvesting. The Techneat Wetting Kit have been specifically designed to ease the flow of delicate tubers over the harvester rollers and table to minimise risk of bruising. Water misted onto the dolman rollers prevents tubers from being gripped and pinched. The water is pumped directly from a high capacity 250L tank to a series of adjustable nozzles which can be directed at critical areas within the harvesting system.
